In Rome

Just landed in Roma thats the plane we took 767-400

Ciao!!!! :) So heres a quick rundown of the trip so far... We landed safe and are all doing well.

Jessica and I left Syracuse at 0715 and drove with no incidence to JFK. We ended up just meeting Shaile and Rebecca at the airport. All of us got together at JFK and got our boarding passes with ease. Walking through security was the easiest it has ever been for me so that was stress free as well.

We all took off on time from JFK and the flight was nice yet long. About 300km into the trip I began to realize that I wasn't just going to Italy for a week... but that I would actually be away for a total of just over a month.... I kinda freaked out but luckily Jess was there to talk to and calmed me down. I think I have it under control now but I have an occasional burst of homesickness whenever I sit or pause for a moment so I have to keep moving. Anyways, the flight served us dinner AND breakfest, very nice. The food was great and made me look forward to some real Italian food when I arrived. We had fish, some sort of potato thing, some vegable salad thing with ham and a thing of fruit and a piece of bread and crackers and coffee, and coke. It was great :) They didn't serve breakfest until 1 hour before landing in Rome. Breakfest was some sort of pastri thing and a muffin or something like that... I can't really remembr lol. BUT! The orange juice.... was red... Very interesting. Tasted great though, oh and more coffee.

We landed in Rome at 0555 making us 20 minutes early. The sun was up when we landed and the view was beautiful. This is when my homesickness went away until like a couple hours ago. My baggage made it okay and we went through customs without a hitch... It was easier then getting into Canada.. The customs guy asked me where I was going stamped the passport and that was it. Apparently he didn't even talk to the others in the group.

Then the frustration of figuring out how to get to the stupid train to get us to Rome from the airport took a while, but we finally found it and made our way to Rome. Upon arriving at Roma Termini we bought our tickets to Siena for Sunday. We then walked to our hostel to drop off our stuff. The hostel is not bad. It's good enough I'll be able to sleep.... if I can sleep at all that is. I have yet to sleep so I've now been up for 28 hours.

After we dropped off our stuff we did some sight seeing for quite a few hours. We went to the Piazza Di Spagna and then to the Fontana Di Trevi. We got their using the subway which wasn't bad, no where near as complicated as NYC and its in Italian besides lol.

After we went sight seeing and had lunch (felt like dinner to me) we came back to the hostel. My feet hurt, my back hurts, and I'm just plain sore. I really don't know what to do with myself but I'm hoping that after I get used to this new routine that I'll calm down a bit.

So, Tomorrow morning we will depart Roma Termini for Siena at 0735. We are scheduled to arrive at 1130ish. (Italy time). We then will make our way to the school and meet our host families. I should then recieve my phone. When I get access to the internet after that I will post the number and your free to call me when you want. I don't care what time it is here :). Monday we have orientation and then classes begin Tuesday. So idk if I will be able to access internet Monday cause classes wont have started officially but Tuesday I will. So either Monday or Tuesday look forward to an update.

And yea I forgot one important thing before I left... To call ESL (Debit card) and tell them I was going to Europe. I had tried at the beginning of may and they told me to call back the day before I left... Then I forgot the day before until late and they were closed... And then in the morning when I left I totally forgot about it. Soooo.... Yea I gotta fix that when I get my phone as well. Otherwise things are okay.

So know you all are on my mind at least once and hour and won't be forgotten... at least for a while;). I miss everyone a bunch and look forward to my return, but not before I enjoy this trip and I will no matter what I have to do.

Teniamoci in contatto (keep in touch)

Love you all very much.

Peace,
John

PS. The weather was great today partly cloudy and maybe a bit too warm, I'm sweating a bit.

PPS. The power has gone off twice in this building since I started writting.. hrmm. Interesting.

(Time at end of post Italy time 1636) and it sooo feels like 2100. Stupid jet lag.

PPPS. I guess this wasn't a quick briefing but I just can't resist you guys , but now I'm going to have some more fun in Roma.

PPPPS. I am accessing the internet via an internet cafè in which they charge .50€ per 15 minutes... not bad. and for the last time. peace and love until next time.
